The day before Thanksgiving, November 25, 2009. Sommer had her cooking under control and decided to drive us a short trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway North of Asheville. Yes, the time of the beautiful fall colors was past and things were truely 'blue' on the ridges. We had a lot of fun driving up to see some familiar view which we had not seen for a number of years. At first as we headed onto the Parkway, Sommer pointed our hillsides where friends of theirs lived. We drove probably an hour or less and then left the Parkway up the Mount Mitchell State Park road. This group of photos were taken by Ken and taken only as far as he went. Oh my, it was so cold up there. The sun was out but the wind and the cold breeze so something else. While Ken took photos of the final scenes from the State Park parking lot, Sommer, Ava, Carson ...... and finally I, climbed by foot another height to the summet. Mt Mitchell is the highest mountain east of the rockie in the USA. You can see tunnels, and various vegitation with it's fall beauty and color. Thos photo of Ava taken with Babe is the height that Ken and Babe went. Ava braved more height with her Mommie. I started up, it was so cold that I stopped but when I saw them up on the summit, I kept going till I made it to the top. Hurrah for me. We stayed there long enough to get a few photos. They are not yet posted.
