A Fall Trip From Broken Arrow to Ellicott City
On Friday at noon, November 13, 2009, Ken and I sat out of a family road trip in the Mercedez, which at that time had 217,596 miles already. By the time we arrived home, we will have added another 3,000 miles, stayed in motels on three nights and visited in the homes of Sarah, Bill and our daughter Sommer Joy Collier. The following is a documentary of our wonderful trip. Both of us at the age of 71, some reminders recalling exactly what took place adds to our pleasure. Indeed this trip was most valuable and memorable.
We had several books on tape to help the long hours in the car go by. The first book was The Case is Altered by Martha Grimes. We headed up the Will Rogers Turnpike through Joplin and Springfiled, Missouri. We spent the night at Quality Inn in St. Louis Missouri.
We took with us on the trip a new special little friend, Babe. Babe is a 14 week old Yorkie which Ken could not bear to leave with a baby sitter. Babe proved to be a good traveler. We had to stop every two to three hours to do the potty thing with Babe, but Ken and I needed the break also.
The following morning, Saturday, November 14, we continued on our journey. We did, however, take time to drive by and stop at the Arch for a few photos. Then we crossed the Mississippi into Illinois.
There is something very exciting about crossing this bridge.
The drive across Illinois and through Indiana and on to Columbus Ohio seemed like a very, very long day.
