Naples has a darkness about it.
A city that does not pick up it's garbage.
The buildings had dingy laundry hanging out its windows and on balconies. So many run-down buildings
Rampant with poverty and thievery. We looked hard for beauty and found sadness ...
Naples was oppressive. Crowded streets, full of buses, scooters and too many tiny cars and no traffic lights. It seemed obvious no one would follow them if there had been street signs. There was trash everywhere, it was dirty, crowded and unfriendly.
Relentless peddlers, trying to sell unwanted wares. We were relieved when our coach carried us out of the city into the higher country side.
The true spot of beauty is the island of Capri located off the Sorrentine Peninsula on the south side of the Gulf of Naples.
Also in the distance is Pompeii and Herculaneum: both buried by volcanic eruptions of 79AD. Our guide told us that Herculaneum is still alive and yet 70,000 people live below it. It is crazy. They claim that if it blows, they will have a 30-day warning to run.
