Windows and Doors of Medieval Saint Paul de Vence

After Grasse, we boarded our coach, traveling through Provence to the well perserved, walled town of St. Paul de Vence.
It's medieval style has been maintained and inhabited by famous artisits, poets and well known collectors, who live above their shops and sell their wares. We had to park below and walk half a mile up the hill into the walled tiny narrow, cobblestone streets. Even though filled with tourists, it was well worth the walk just to see the culture displayed in the games being played on the lawn and romantic way of life.

First record, 11th century: Castrum Sancti Pauli

Medieval: The village was fortified in the 13th century. In the 16th century, St. Paul was ruled by the Lords of Grasse-Bar, and then became a Royal Village. In 1537, François 1st built a second wall to completely enclose the village. Several hundred houses had to be destroyed, and the inhabitants moved down to the lower lands, where La Colle is now located.
